What will I be doing as a volunteer?

You could be:

• Befriending

• Mentoring

• Supporting specific projects for example arts, environmental - we have an organic allotment, ICT, health etc.

• Supporting learners re English language acquisition either one to one or in small groups. This can be centre or home based

• Children’s activities

• Production of publicity and at promotion events

• Fund- raising

What is the time commitment?

Most of our sessions are morning or afternoon, five days a week and take place either at First Step of if preferred due to volunteer’s work commitments at beneficiaries home at a time that is convenient to both.

What skills, experience or qualifications do I need?

We are not looking for particular skills or experience just a desire and commitment to be part of the First Step experience and ethos.

What training is provided?

All volunteers will have an induction covering information about First Step including history, ethos, policies and practicalities, cultural awareness, what resources are available etc.

Other training opportunities will be in response to feedback and review with volunteers. Previously these have included accredited courses in counselling, learning support and mentoring.
