Cultural Heritage Project

This is a new project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund

The aim is to enable beneficiaries and volunteers to participate in recalling, interpreting, expressing and sharing traditional stories and craft skills to produce pieces of work that reflect their cultural heritage.

The range of craft ideas we are exploring include:

Basketry

In England baskets are usually made from willow. In the far north of Scotland where there are few trees the tradition is to use straw, dock, heather and moss. In Bangladesh baskets are made out of jute and date palm fibre. We will be using different materials and methods of production to produce our own baskets reflecting our cultural heritages.

Textiles

We will be making a beaded curtain and quilted table cloth and weaving heritage stories that represent all the cultures involved into the fabrics.
