Environmental Interests

First Step has always had an interest in environmental issues. Our building has solar panels for electricity and hot water, grey water re-cycling to the toilets, condensing boilers and an active green house-keeping policy re re-cycling, electricity use etc.

In the summer of 2006 we were awarded a grant by the Children's network to enable a group of young people to explore the issue of global warming and how they and the world might be affected by climate change. If you link to their web page you will be able to see what they achieved.

In addition, in 2007, we received a grant from the National Energy Action to take a group of women and children to the Centre for Alternative Technology in Wales. We spent four days learning how we can effect change in our day to day lives that will impact locally and globally on our environment and quality of life.
